What’s new in Virtualization Manager v8.2.1
Orion Maps is an advanced troubleshooting tool that provides a contextual and graphical portrayal of an entity and its critical relationships, including routers, switches, servers, interfaces, volumes, and groups. For VMAN, Orion Maps also includes clusters, datacenters, datastores, hosts, and virtual machines.
Virtual objects monitored with VMAN - clusters, datacenters, datastores, hosts, and virtual machines - are now searched via the Orion Web Console's search feature and will appear in relevant search results.
What’s new in Virtualization Manager v8.1
New and improved, Capacity Planning is now available in the Orion Web Console.
When planning your virtual environment infrastructure, resources, and allocation, you may need help determining when you need to expand and how much you need to expand by. Capacity Planning provides a scenario wizard which helps you create and test configurations on-the-fly or intensively after deep consideration of your environment’s performance history, new system needs, and currently available resources.
Run a check up on your environment’s currently used resources and predict when you’ll need to start adding more hosts to keep up with your current rate of resource consumption. Simulate adding any number of VMs of different types to see how many more your current environment is prepared for, or simulate adding hosts to see how many VMs you’ll be prepared to handle. Or do both. Each scenario generates a report with detailed usage statistics covering predicted resource consumption and recommendations for meeting future needs.
Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring for Azure environments
The SolarWinds® Orion Platform's Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring feature now provides visibility into Microsoft Azure VMs so you can monitor and administer hybrid and cloud environments that include both Azure VMs and Amazon Web Services (AWS) instances, along with attached volumes.
The Orion Platform polls cloud services for metrics used to track availability, performance, applications, and more for instances/VMs and attached volumes. Examples of data gathered via polling include status, storage capacity, memory usage, and IP addresses. After collecting cloud resource status and metrics, the Orion Platform compiles data so you can:
- Display a consolidated view of on-premises, hybrid, and cloud systems in the Orion Web Console.
- Monitor and manage an entire infrastructure with Orion Platform tools.
- Track the overall health of a system, as well as individual resources, for auditing purposes.
